Here is a quick list of applications that I have installed on Windows 7 Beta 7000 x64 that work:

Notepad++ 5.1.3
WinRAR 3.80
VLC 0.9.8a
Opera 9.63
Visual Studio 2008
SQL Server 2005
Printkey 2000 5.10
Office 2007
OpenOffice 3
iTunes
Acrobat Reader 9
Adobe Master Collection (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc) CS3
RealVNC Free Edition 4.1.3 x86
Firefox 3.0.5
Thunderbird 2.0.0.19
Xvid 1.2.1
DivX 7

I got ISO Recorder to install on Windows 7 Beta with a tiny bit of hacking. Open the MSI file with the Orca MSI editor (available for download, officially anyway, only in the Microsoft Windows SDK, unfortunately). Do a find for “Vista” and you’ll find the line where it says “VersionNT=600″. Change that to “VersionNT>=600″, save, and try the install again. The install and ISO Recorder work great after that.

    Thanks, I will try that.

I know the error it threw was a simple “Needs Vista to Install.”

1)Windows Live Messenger 2009 has sound problems!! Gotta crank up volume to 100%
2)Yahoo Messenger version 8 and 9 Do not Install! Does sometimes but again Sound Problems.
3)Spywarebegone Installs but does not work correctly

It’s funny that Windows Live is supposed to be compat but in trouble shoot it detects it as not compatable!

I’ve found Windows 7 to have sound problems in general. Other than the MP3 issue I reported in the next post, I found all media needs to be played at almost twice the volume to achieve the same dB level.

Also noticing install issues in general whether compatible or not…insead of just being able to run a program as set option upon download I am having to save the file to my desktop in order to get it to install correctly or at all.

Windows 7 couldn’t find drivers for my Creative X-Fi card but a right click on the Program Compatability option for my Vista 64 driver did the trick. I have great sound now.
