If it's a connectivity issue I always try to start with a command line check, windows or *nix.

1) Do I have an IP? ifconfig or ipconfig
2) Can I ping the Gateway that is set?
3) Can I ping 4.2.2.2 (Verizon DNS Server)
4) Can I ping a known domain, mine or otherwise...

Usually by this time you know what kind of connectivity Issue you have.

1) I have an IP, ok, what can I ping. I can ping gateway but nothing external...(Router, DNS, or ISP Issue)

2) I don't have an IP, is the cable connected and router on? Is my NIC disabled? (NIC, Cable, Router, Switch)

3) I have IP, I can ping gateway and I can ping domains, could be Malware or Browser Hijack.....
